Woman Scientist 👩🔬
Hi, I’m a scientist! I study the way mercury cycles through the environment in contaminated aquatic ecosystems. I want to give remediation experts the information they need to develop efficient remediation strategies to clean up mercury-contaminated environments. I work outdoors and in the lab, and soon I will be doing a lot of writing. I graduated last year with my BS in chemistry and environmental science, and now I’m working on my PhD at the University of Michigan, USA. I have been passionate about protecting the environment my whole life, and I became interested in chemistry in high school, and now I get to combine those two interests into one amazing job.
Let’s discuss science! Feel free to answer any or all questions, or come up with your own. I’ll write my answers in the comments.
For the scientists:
1. What is one success story you’ve had as a scientist?
2. What are some challenges you’ve had as a scientist? How do you overcome them? Are there any challenges you’ve had as a woman scientist that your male colleagues may not encounter?
3. What inspired you to become a scientist?
For the non-scientists:
A. How has science impacted your life? Is there a scientific discovery that you’re thankful for?
B. Is there a scientist you look up to? How about a woman scientist?
C. Even if you’re not working as a scientist, do you enjoy or feel inspired by science? Why or why not?
